A slime chunk is a specific chunk in Minecraft where slimes can spawn below Y level 40, regardless of light level. Every Minecraft world has a fixed set of slime chunks determined by the world seed - roughly 1 in 10 chunks is a slime chunk. In Bedrock Edition, slime chunk locations are the same for every world.

In Slime Base, choose Java or Bedrock Edition and enter your world seed for biomes. Java slime chunks also depend on the seed; Bedrock slime chunks are the same in every world. Open Find clusters, choose the cluster dimensions, distance, and result limit, then select Start Search. The first matches open automatically; select a result to jump to it on the map. Distances are measured from world origin (X 0, Z 0). You can collapse results or stop a running search from its summary.

In Java or Bedrock Edition, open Biomes on the map to choose the Minecraft version, switch between Surface and Underground, adjust opacity, or turn the overlay off. The Biomes button shows the selected version and layer.

For most Minecraft slime farms, a 2x2 slime chunk cluster is the most practical - it's relatively easy to find and provides enough spawning space for an efficient slimeball farm. Larger clusters like 3x3 produce more slimes per hour but are much rarer and require significantly more excavation to build.

Java Edition uses the lower 48 bits of a world seed to place slime chunks. The upper 16 bits can therefore produce 65,536 full 64-bit world seeds with the same 5×5 slime pattern but potentially different biomes.

Slimes spawn in slime chunks at Y level 39 and below in any light level. They can also spawn in swamp biomes at the surface between Y 51 and 69 at night, but only when the light level is 7 or less.

In Minecraft Java Edition, slime chunk locations are determined by the world seed - each seed produces a unique pattern of slime chunks. In Bedrock Edition, slime chunks are the same for every world regardless of seed. A world seed is needed for biome maps in both editions and for slime chunks in Java.
